High speed internet is growing dramatically in availability all around the world, and especially within the USA. You don't necessarily have to settle for slow dial up web surfing any longer. DSL and cable are now more affordable too.
You probably live in a very rural area of the USA if the above two are not yet available to you. Give it time, as both the phone companies and cable companies are continuously expanding their territories.
There has been talk for a few years now that electric companies will someday have web access coming to us via power lines. It is our understanding that test markets have been conducted, but to our knowledge, that type of service is not something the majority of us have access to.
In the meantime, if you live in a mostly rural area, satellite access and dialup are your only options at this point.

By high speed, we mean much faster than dial-up access. Cable companies give you high speed internet though the same cable as your cable tv. Phone companies provide you DSL through your phone line. They are both high speed, also known as broadband.
